thomas pic “Day out with Thomas” – Sat 12th & Sun 13th; Sat 19th & Sun 20th; Mon 21st July

A great opportunity to meet that cheeky chappie "Thomas" the Tank Engine. "Daisy" the DMU will also be available to shuttle Thomas' friends from the Waterfront to Barry Island.

Barry Island Railway Station - Saturdays and Sundays 2nd - 31st August 2008 Commemorating the 40th anniversary of the end of Mainline Steam.
 
"Barry - 70 years of Railways"

An exhibition of the photographs of John Hodge and Gerard Hubback.
 
11am-4pm
 
John is a native of Barry who took many railway photographs in South Wales in the '50's and '60's .He worked for British Railways in this area from 1961 until he moved to Paddington in 1970. Now living in West Sussex, he often returns to Barry to record the railway scene.Several books of his photographs have been published but many of the images in this exhibition are on view for the first time.
 
Gerard Hubback lived in Barry and began photographing railways in 1929 He became well known as a railway photogapher of great merit. After his death in 1958 most of his collection was given to John by his widow and many are on display for the first time at the exhibition.


End of Steam. August 9th will see a special "mixed traction" event

This event will help to show the transition between steam and diesel traction.

In action are "Pamela" (now in BR black!), D9521 and D8137. A WTT is HERE.

Diesel Weekend Sat 23rd, Sun 24th & Mon 25th August.

This event will see (most of) the BIR diesel fleet in operation on an enhanced timetable.

The 2007 event was another huge success. If you can only make it to one diesel event at the BIR this year, this is the one to visit.

New extension to Gladstone Bridge station in operation!

The Class 58 Locomotive Group will have their sales stand at Barry Island station on Sunday 24th. Local model railway dealer "Rickocraft" will be in attendance on all three days.

All traction operates on Saturday and Sunday. Monday will see D8137 and D9521 operate with the Class 117 DMU.

pamela Waterfront Festival –6th & 7th September

Mixed traction event connecting Barry Island to the events taking place on the Waterfront.

Tall Ship visit and other attractions.

Come along for our special enthusiasts day on September 20th.

Class 108, Class 117 and Class 115 will all be running. Tail loads will be attached on some workings.

Ghosts and mysteries; due to demand this event now takes place over two days. Great fun for the little ghosts and big ghosts.. !

Bonfire Night shuttles – 5th November

Trains from 1700 to 2100 running every 30 minutes from the Waterfront station to Barry Island. Firework display around 2000hrs at the Island.

£2.00 return for an adult. £1.00 return for a child.
Special evening shuttle trains will run to speed you past the queues for the Annual Firework Festival.
Buy your ticket from the guard.
